Lynn Johnson Confirmed as Assistant Secretary for Family Support at HHS
Today, Lynn Johnson was confirmed by the full Senate as the Assistant Secretary for Family Support at the Department of Health and Human Services. In her new role, Johnson will oversee more than sixty federal human service programs, including the Office of Child Care, the Office of Head Start, and the Office of Family Assistance. These programs, along with others that Johnson will oversee, provide our youngest children with the supports they need for healthy development.
Johnson has devoted her career to serving children and families in Colorado. Most recently, she served as Jefferson County, Colorado’s Executive Director of the Department of Human Services where she was responsible for managing federal health and human service programs. Her duties included managing Head Start, Medicaid, and the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) program in the county. Prior to her work in Jefferson County, she worked as Chief of Staff for Colorado’s former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton and as a consultant focusing on child welfare. Johnson’s experience in Colorado allows her unique insight into the role of both local and federal government in the child welfare system. FFYF congratulates Johnson on her confirmation and we look forward to working with her.
