Task Force Celebrates Release of Early Childhood Education Profession Framework
Facilitated by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), fifteen national organizations released the Unifying Framework for the Early Childhood Education Profession. The framework was released this week after three-years of consensus building work across the early childhood education field. The goal of the report is to establish guiding principles that define the early childhood education profession. Specifically, the framework outlines how the early learning field can come together to advance a unified, diverse, equitable, and effective early childhood education profession.
The Power to the Profession Task Force, which wrote the report, convened as a result of the National Academy of Medicine’s report, Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth through Eight. In addition to the fifteen task force members, 38 stakeholder groups and 11,000 early childhood educators were engaged through seven rounds of public comments.
The report offers recommendations in a number of areas including crafting professional standards and competencies, as well as teacher compensation. Additionally, the framework acknowledges the importance of an effective implementation plan with adequate federal and state funding.
